Mammography
Congratulations to David Donavan and his Team. They have successfully passed their mammography accreditation. This is a three year accreditation by the American College of Radiology and the FDA. The survey consist of a review of their QA Program, a physicist review of the equipment and clinical image review, and technologist and physician qualifications.
TO OUR MAMMOGRAPHY PATIENTS – THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPRESSION
You may experience some discomfort during this examination. We want to assure you that this is necessary to produce the quality of films you would want in order for the Radiologist to make an accurate diagnosis.
This machine is the latest and the most sophisticated on the market and the compression of your breast is necessary for the following reasons:
- It reduces the radiation dose by decreasing breast thickness.
- It prevents patient motion during the exposure.
- It separates the breast tissues, allowing optimal evaluation of lesions that might be obscured by other tissues.
- It can distinguish between masses of low density, such as cysts and carcinomas, which have a high uneven density.
- It results in nearly uniform thickness of all parts of the breast, allowing equal
penetration of the x-ray beam. - It diminishes scatter radiation (radiation to other parts of your body), thereby
increasing detail. - It increases detail by bringing the breast as close as possible to the film.
Please do not hesitate to ask for additional information regarding this procedure.
Sincerely the Imaging Department. ☺
